Job Purpose:
Supports physicians' and researchers' studies by maintaining a database of information on persons diagnosed with cancer.

Duties:
* Prepares work to be processed by gathering, sorting, organizing, and recording data, information, and documents.

* Maintains database by logging new cases; entering, retrieving and analyzing records of cancer patient's history, diagnosis, therapy, and outcome

* Obtains post-hospitalization follow-up information by contacting discharged patients, families, and physicians to determine quality of life and length of patient survival.

* Prepares reports for physicians and researchers by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends; arranging information in statistical, narrative, and graphic form.

* Prepares information for the american college of surgeons and government agencies by following prescribed reporting methodologies.

* Maintains work operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.

* Maintains quality results by establishing and following standards.

* Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.

* Serves and protects the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and jcaho standards.

* Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

* Enhances tumor registry department and medical center reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
