Job Type Full-timeDescriptionThe John Theurer Cancer Center (JTCC), an NCI-designated Cancer Center and New Jersey's largest cancer program, is seeking a full time Medical Assistant. The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the professional nursing staff in providing nursing care to select patients under the supervision of the professional nurse. This position performs the duties of a clerical assistant. This includes the coordinating operations of a high-volume patient care clinic which may consist of but are not limited to receiving and triaging patient and physician phone calls, message taking, and scheduling appointments in accordance to departmental guidelines under the direction of the Operations Manager.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following and other duties may be assigned:---Follow opening and closing procedures in accordance to office guidelines.---Greets Patients and Physicians with respect.---Prepares exam room, treatment room, supplies and instruments.---Prepares patients for physician visit and examination, assisting as directed.---Assists physician and nurse with daily clinic assuring patients records are updated.---Provides patient assistance bathroom/commode.---Takes patient's vital signs and records in medical chart/EPIC.---Assists nurse with scheduling tests and completing forms.---Understands proper function and care of special equipment.---Maintains records by completing patient records as directed; file record and reports.---Performs Phlebotomy and EKG as needed.---Provides coverage and support in scheduling and floor reception by answering phones, retrieving voice mail, triaging messages, scheduling appointments and diagnostic testing.---Conducts self in accordance with JTCC's employee manual.---Maintains strict confidentiality in adherence to all HIPAA Guidelines/Regulations.---Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e. age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.).---This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).---Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.---Assists to ensure patient satisfaction in any way possible.---Tracks chemotherapy, imaging guidelines, new patient calls daily.---All other duties assigned by management.RequirementsCOMPENTENCIES:---Customer Service - Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; Responds promptly to customer needs; Solicits customer feedback to improve service; Responds to requests for service and assistance; Meets commitments.---Oral Communication - Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; Listens and gets clarification; Responds well to questions; Demonstrates group presentation skills; Participates in meetings.---Professionalism - Approaches others in a tactful manner; Reacts well under pressure; Treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; Accepts responsibility for own actions; Follows through on commitments.---Quality Management - Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.---Adaptability - Adapts to changes in the work environment; Manages competing demands; Changes approach or method to best fit the situation; Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.---Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time; Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; Arrives at meetings and appointments on time.---Dependability - Follows instructions, responds to management direction; Takes responsibility for own actions; Keeps commitments; Commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals; Completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan.---Innovation - Displays original thinking and creativity; Meets challenges with resourcefulness; Generates suggestions for improving work; Develops innovative approaches and ideas; Presents ideas and information in a manner that gets others' attention.CONTACTS: Regular contact with Medical Center personnel.EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma required. Medical Assistant Certification required.REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES: Phlebotomy CertificationPHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lifting, bending and spending long hours on your feet will be expected.
