Shift: 10.5 Experience: 2 years minimum in oncology License: NYS RN
License Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Bachelor of Science in
Nursing (preferred) Minimum 2 years of oncology experience in a
hospital or outpatient setting Intake skills Description: The
Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse. This role
involves providing safe and competent quality care. Care is based
on nursing theory and research for a designated group of patients
and significant others. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
PATIENT CARE Delivers patient care by incorporating the tenets of
the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care.
Applies the nursing process based on theory, research,
evidence-based practice, and approved organizational nursing
standards. Assesses and evaluates patient care needs, applying
critical thinking skills in patient care management. Integrates
relevant assessment and intervention skills in the delivery of
nursing care. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare
team to develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care.
Prioritizes all aspects of patient care including teaching,
rounding, coaching, and planning after-hospital care. Delegates to
others as appropriate while educating patients and caregivers about
their plan of care. Communicates effectively and professionally
with patients, families, and all members of the interdisciplinary
team. Manages assignments within the Care Delivery Model
effectively. PATIENT EXPERIENCE Role models the principles of
Relationship Centered Care. Facilitates actions including admission
welcome, bedside shift report, and purposeful hourly rounding.
Considers the patient's values, preferences, cultural diversity,
expressed needs, and knowledge in all aspects of care. Establishes
and maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients and
families. Uses evidence-based practices to increase understanding
of patients' perceptions of care. Initiates service recovery for
patients and family members who have concerns. Demonstrates caring,
respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening through
dialogue. QUALITY AND SAFETY Practices safe and efficient
patient-centered care. Identifies and escalates barriers and
opportunities for improvement. Demonstrates clinical skills and
knowledge crucial to quality and safety in the patient population
served. Implements process improvement strategies based on
evidence-based procedures. Engages in formal and informal peer and
institutional review processes. Collaborates with interdisciplinary
teams on quality improvement projects and evidence-based practices.
Identifies and avoids high-risk behaviors to provide a safe
environment for patients. OPERATIONS Performs charge nurse duties
as assigned. Coordinates to ensure supplies are used appropriately
and inventory is sufficient for patient care. Escalates material or
staffing resource deficits as needed. Documents accurately and
thoroughly to comply with regulatory and legal requirements.
Facilitates patient throughput on a shift basis. PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT Contributes to the environment of care to support
clinical colleagues, patients, and families. Advances clinical
competence in nursing practice. Projects a professional image and
communicates with respect and compassion. Incorporates ethical
