Job Description Description A Brief Overview A Sonographer
(Ultrasound Tech) is a diagnostic medical professional whom
provides diagnostic medical ultrasound exams consistent with their
education and training, and in accordance with facility policies
and procedures and applicable professional standards. The
Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of
sonographic equipment, maintaining patient workflow, technical
aspects of equipment maintenance, and quality assessment (QA). The
Sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all
times and is self motivated to increase their level of
understanding and knowledge of the field, pathologically process
and advancements in ultrasound technology. What You Will Do
Validate patient order and review relevant prior imaging Prepare
exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct ultrasound exams in
accordance with infectious disease, sterilization, patient safety
protocols, policies, and procedures Consistently follow hospital
policy to correctly identify patients and communicate and explain
exam in a manner appropriate to the patient's ability to understand
Perform ultrasound examination in accordance with departmental
protocols while utilizing critical thinking skills and independent
judgment to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological and
clinical conditions are accurately captured Completed structured
reporting document, identify exam limitations, assure images are
uploaded to PACS and review exam with radiologist as needed
Perform, follow protocol, and maintain competency for High Level
Disinfection procedures Provide age-specific care to patients from
neonates through geriatrics Maintain patient privacy and
confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws ( HIPAA) and adhere
to hospital policies Establish and maintain collaborative working
relationships with co-workers, administrators, and members of the
health care team Maintain required credentials and licenses Follow
proper procedure to report equipment failures Adhere to hospital
safety and regulatory( DNV, ODH, ect) standards Additional
Responsibilities Follow Radiology communication plan Completing
annual training before deadline as required by hospital leadership
Must demonstrate the ability to work independently Performs other
duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. For
specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation
provided by the department during orientation. Must abide by all
requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health
Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of
Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address
appropriate use of PHI in the workplace. Qualifications Education
High School Equivalent / GED (Required) and Other Accredited
Program: Completion of an accredited program in a school of
Sonography (Required) Work Experience less than 1 year New
graduates from an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program
(Preferred) Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of sterile
technique and surgical procedures (Preferred proficiency) Basic
computer knowledge. (Required proficiency) Knowledge of various
types of ultrasound equipment. (Required proficiency) Basic
knowledge of oxygen tanks, suction machines and IVAC pumps.
(Preferred proficiency) Knowledge of computer stored images
(Required proficiency) Licenses and Certifications Registered
Vascular Technologist (RVT) and/or Registered Diagnostic Medical
Sonographer (RDMS) within one of eligibility to sit for registry
(Required within 1 Year) and Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required
